This Year's Model Updates:

Lexus gives the LS 430 a midcycle freshening for 2004. Along with mild exterior revisions, the LS gets a number of new standard features, including a six-speed automatic transmission (with a manual-shift gate), adaptive headlights that swivel during turning maneuvers, knee airbags for the driver and front passenger and a moonroof. New options include the Pre-Collision system, which uses radar to detect an avoidable collision, and prepares for impact by tightening up the seatbelts, switching to sport mode on air suspension-equipped vehicles and activating maximum braking pressure. Among the other highlights are SmartAccess, which allows the driver to start up the LS without inserting a key; 18-inch wheels as part of the Sport Package; and a rear backup camera, expanded voice recognition functionality and Bluetooth hands-free phone compatibility on vehicles with the navigation system. An upgraded Mark Levinson stereo now offers seating position-optimized sound, and satellite radio is a new dealer-installed option.

Pros:
  • Superb ride quality, impressive array of standard and optional luxury features, top-notch interior materials, Lexus reliability.
Cons:
  • Not as athletic as some competitors, adding options raises the price to un-Lexus-like levels.

  • The best of the best! - 2004 Lexus LS 430

This is absolutely the ultimate in driving! I have driven all types of luxury, large sedans and this car so far outclasses any Ive ever had. Lexus has made it impossible to drive any other car without feeling a "step- down". its a feeling of having finally "arrived."

  • True Luxury, Great Road Car - 2004 Lexus LS 430

Everything one would expect from Lexus: the cabin is quiet and surrounds one in understated by unmistakable luxury. Very quick at all speeds and excellent braking. Cornering is OK, but this is not a "drivers" car. It is, however, outstanding on the freeway and on long trips and comfortable and capable if not exciting around town. GREAT highway passing ability. My actual highway mileage is 25+ mpg -- and I dont drive 55. In town, expect 15-17 depending on mix and how heavy ones foot is. The Mark Levinson sound system is magnificent. Back seat comfort is arguably better than the front seat. The shifter is extremely nice and can enhance driving experience and reduce brake wear.

  • Less $ Doesnt Mean Less By Any Means - 2004 Lexus LS 430

This car compared to the other TOP of the line vehicles from other manufacturers has more to offer for your money. In comparison to the performance and features that are available at the highest option level of this car, other manufacturers charge a lot more for their comparable cars. Ease of use is and comfort throughout make this my obvious choice and should be the choice of any educated person who is looking for exceptional performance, reliability, and value. The status symbol that this car represents is the intelligent buyer with strong values, goals, and good money sense.

  • The very good and the not so good - 2004 Lexus LS 430

Let me start off by saying this is a very, very well put together car. Its fast, quiet has great electronics and the build quality is top notch. Very good gas mileage for such a strong V8. No rattles or squeaks. What it is not is exciting to drive. If you like the old American Caddy ride, this it the best ever. If you want to feel the road, have some steering wheel feel and be able to corner, this is not the best choice. If I had a driver, I would love to sit in the back. For those who like driving dynamics, you may prefer the Euro cars.

  • Best Luxury Car Available - 2004 Lexus LS 430

Having owned BMWs and Jaguars, my LS430 is a welcome relief from frequent unscheduled visits to the service department. The LS430 might not have the style of a Jag or the sharp handling of a BMW, but is a great compromise of those features with confidence-inspiring reliability. Lexus has included as standard equipment, many details not found in other luxury cars. At a starting price of around $55,000, it is the best bargain on the market.

  • The Perfect Car - 2004 Lexus LS 430

When you first get in the LS, you experience a wonderfully plush interior with less of a technical assault than the BMW 745i. The technology is easy to use, and its got to be the most comfortable car in the world. With ample power, the car accelerates 0-60 in 6.3 seconds, which is fast enough for just about anyone. You could be going 100 mph and not even know it. This cabin is incredibly quiet, and the bumps are non-existent. The rear back-up camera is a very useful gizmo. Overall this car is wonderful, and if its anything like its Lexus predecessors it will hold up to its value. And at thousands less than its competitors, this is one great buy.

After putting 176K on a 1991 Lexus LS400 that I purchased new, I was ready to move into another new Lexus. The LS430 surpasses everything else I test drove. No regrets! Lexus quality exceeds all other brands at any price.
